Airbnb cleaning can be overwhelming. You are obligated to complete your work in a designated time slot while also making sure you do a good job and don’t miss anything important. Obviously making sure all the large surfaces like the floors are cleaned and the bed is beautifully made are essential. But sometimes the small details are what can make or break the way a guest feels about the overall cleanliness of the unit.

This list serves as a reminder that the devil is in the details! Remember these frequently forgotten places and your hosts and their guests will thank you.

1. Switch plate covers

This pertains to light switches especially those in commonly used areas like the kitchen and the bathroom. Nothing screams gross more than an unknown residue exactly where your guests are about to place their hands!

2. Baseboards

It’s not practical or timely to necessarily clean these every time but spot checking is important because these places can get very dirty. Pay special attention to the bathroom. Think about where the guest will be “sitting” and you’ll have a perspective on what exactly they will be focusing their attention on while they have idle time…

3. Doors and door knobs

Again the bathroom is an especially important area for these to be kept clean. It will keep germs at bay and as a bonus the guest won’t be grossed out by the makeup stains on the white door from the spring breakers who stayed there before them!

4. Remote controls

This is an item that likely comes in contact with every single person multiple times during their stay. Therefore they are a prime location for germs to thrive. Not to mention the sticky goo that the fingers of children often leave behind. It takes 2 seconds to give these a wipe with a disinfectant wipe and it is worth the time.

5. Fans

Again this is something that doesn’t necessarily need to be done every time but taking the time to check and make sure fan blades are clean is a very important step in cleaning. A dusty fan is one of the most frequent complaints of guests in their reviews. Also think about how much less dust will be flying around if the fans are clean. This could mean less for you to dust in the long run!

6. The sides on the bottom of the toilet!

Of course everyone cleans the seat and the toilet bowl but those little crevices on the sides of the toilet are equally important. Hair and residue from men with “poor aim” are frequently found in this overlooked area. It’s not my favorite spot to clean by any means but it’s one I never miss!

Set yourself apart from other cleaners by keeping these few areas in mind when cleaning. The extra couple of minutes you spend on them will make a world of difference to your hosts and their guests.
